Welcome Back! I hope that you were able to enjoy time with your family and also found some time to rest during break. January is a great time to reflect on areas of our lives where we were successful during the past year. As we think upon those successes, we can start off the New Year with pride and confidence. As with every New Year, we have the chance to begin again in areas that we’d like to be successful this year.
Here are some tips to start the New Year off in a positive way:
Get plenty of sleep. Research has found that students who do not get enough sleep have difficulty paying attention in class and do not do well in school. Scientists recommend 8 1/2 to 11 hours of sleep a night for elementary students.
Eat healthy. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Drink at least 8 (8oz) glasses of water every day. Limit the amount of sodas and junk foods you and your family eat.
Exercise your mind and body daily.
Time and Effort equals Achievement. Take the time to carefully complete all assignments at school and home; ask questions when you do not understand a task; demonstrate perseverance even when the work is difficult, and eliminate the word ¯can’t from your vocabulary. Attend school regularly and be on time.
Each of these tips will assist students to be successful in their academic and personal goals for the year. These tips will also assist your student in preparing for the Scantron assessment. Please consider starting these good habits today!
The Ben Ross faculty, staff, and I wish you a happy, successful, and prosperous New Year!
Ms. Martin
